This is a new course offered by the Summer University of Human Rights (Geneva), with Association d’étudiants pour les droits et la dignité de l’homme (EDHO) and the University of La Rioja, Women’s Board Educational Co-Operation Society, in association with the NGO People First Society, European Youth Alliance and the Universities of Navarre, Saragossa and Vigo. The goal of this course is to integrate gender issues with the study of Human Rights.

In this context, we will provide an overview of the situation of the international community, characterised by a marked cultural pluralism. Undoubtedly, this affects the way human rights are interpreted and applied.

We will try to respond to the following:

1. How should human rights be applied and articulated in order to better fulfil the needs of women?
2. How should we consider an individual's rights, with regard to gender, in order to respect cultural diversities?

 TOPICS

2. International human rights protection
3. Cultural pluralism: universality and relativism
4. Women's health rights
